Israeli President Isaac Herzog traveled to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, marking the first visit of any president to the Gulf state.
Herzog was accompanied by his wife on the two-day visit.
He will meet with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Sajid Al Nahyan.
“I bring with me the blessings and the message of peace to the people of the whole region,” Herzog said.
During the visit, Herzog will also meet with the Jewish community, according to a statement issued by his office.
In December, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett became the first Israeli Prime Minister to visit the Emirates.
Israel has signed agreements with the Emirates and Bahrain in 2020 to establish diplomatic relations.
Since then, the two Arab states, and neighboring countries, Egypt and Jordan have maintained diplomatic relations with Israel.
Last year, the Emirates opened an embassy in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
During this period, direct flights were established between the two countries.
Economic reasons are believed to be key to this rapprochement approach, but these countries are also forming an alliance against Iran.
