The suppression of human rights by the Taliban is destroying the lives of Afghan women and girls.
This is stated in the new report of the international organization for human rights, Amnesty International.
Since returning to power almost a year ago, the radical group has repeatedly violated the rights of women and girls to education, work, and freedom of movement, the organization said.
The international community does not recognize the Taliban regime, as it demands respect for human rights and tolerance for other groups.
The Taliban returned to power in August last year, as international forces ended their mission in Afghanistan.
Despite trying to portray themselves as more moderate than when they were first in power in 1996-2011, the Taliban have created an all-male government and barred women from education beyond the seventh grade and forced them to cover the head and face.
The report also mentions that women who protested peacefully against this regime were threatened, arrested, tortured and forcibly disappeared.
The report was compiled after a nine-month investigation and visits by the organization’s researchers to Afghanistan.
They interviewed 90 women and 11 girls between the ages of 14 and 74.
The organization has called on the international community to act for the protection of Afghan girls and women./ Radio Free Europe
