These are the images when the Police in Istanbul intervened to prevent a march in support of the LGBT community by stopping hundreds of them on June 26th.
The march took place around Taksim Square, in the heart of Istanbul, with hundreds of protesters holding colorful flags near the area, challenging a police stop.
“We are here. “We are not going anywhere.” they said.
Organizers said more than 200 participants and activists for the LGBT community had been detained and that police had refused to give them access to their lawyers.
A Turkish journalist said that some of them were even beaten by the police.
Turkey has become one of the few Muslim states to have allowed the Pride Parade in 2003.
However, such marches have been banned since 2015, citing safety issues.
