The members of the salsa schools gathered to celebrate the 486th anniversary of the city of Cali, but they also had the opportunity to celebrate something else: the declaration of the famous dance part of the nation’s intangible cultural heritage by the Colombian government.
“Cali is a city that lives for salsa”, says Edwin Chica, Director of its World Festival.
“In this city, everything lives and breathes with this dance. We have dancers, orchestras, musicians, singers, choreographers; we even have salsa tourism”, said Edwin Chica, Director of the World Salsa Festival.
“Dancing fills me with pride, it fills me with joy, because I know I’m giving it my all doing what I love most, and I really want others to enjoy my performance.” said Laura Perdomo, dancer.
The decision of the Colombian executive is considered of particular importance, as it enables the subsidization of dance competitions, creation and musical performance, but also the production of costumes for dancers through the implementation of a special plan for the protection of the salsa of Cali.
