The demolition of houses in the May 5 area as part of the reconstruction project was accompanied by clashes between police and residents. Yesterday was the deadline set by the Municipality of Tirana to vacate the apartments, but some of the residents objected.
Among them was Liza Marku, the elderly woman who clashed with the police spoke to “Albania Live” about the event, saying that one of the children was accompanied in the van. She also refused to leave the house, but IKMT continued the action and consequently says that many of her furniture were damaged, while they lost their heart medicines and wallet with money.
According to Lisa, the protests will continue and she spent the evening outside to store the furniture they took out.
Liza Marku: The policeman told me you would get wool. I had not gone to get wool. I told him I had made a request for cancellation, they said they would respond to us on February 13. These came on January 19, did not wait at all. I had my children there, one of them was escorted to the police van. After I was dragged away, I was told I had the boy in the van. 3 people caught me as if I had weapons with me. We had no objection to the development of the area, we just wanted to be taken to the palace, but not to social housing. Last night I stayed outside because I had clothes, I had nowhere to sleep. If they stole from me, where would I go? I have the house in the process of legalization, the house two meters per meter and cm per cm. The letter was not to spoil it before February 13th. I love it there in that neighborhood. I’m taking heart medication and I do not know where I have it. They should be under the rubble. Not even the wallet with money, nothing that I got. On the third floor I left a lot, on the first floor they came out but they are in the basket because they have been torn to pieces.
Question: How long have you been receiving the notice?
Liza Marku: 4-5 days before. We were notified once about 3 months ago. I will continue to protest. When we received the first letter, we were told to donate the house. I will not forgive him any cm. We have been building the house for 25 years. We bought the land with money. We are neither shepherds nor cockroaches, we were not even in the hut. We did the legalizations, they blocked them. The water lights took us away, we paid our taxes. We will stay outside at home.
Recall that the project for the new neighborhood of 5 May affects the residents of administrative units no. 4 and no. 8 who will receive full compensation, exchanging their apartment with a house in the new buildings that will be built for homeless from the earthquake.
Until the moment they move into the new house, these residents will receive the rent bonus from the Municipality of Tirana.
