We found Blerina, the mother of four children, washing clothes by hand in the yard.
The head of the family, Shukri Todaj, says that heart disease keeps him away from work. Blerina and Shukriu have spent their whole lives in poor conditions. The children grew up in a cold and damp house in the village of Grabjan in Lushnja. They are fed and dressed with the few foods and clothes that are forgiven, after 6 thousand 700 Lekë that they receive from the economic aid is not enough to pay for Shukri’s medicines and two girls who suffer from heart disease.
“Our life is gone, I just want home for the kids“, Says Shukri Todaj.
One of the girls of the house, Armela says that her peers despise her because she dresses worse than everyone else.
“I do not have friends, they curse me why I dress badly and why I do not have money alone. I’m a good student with an average of 9.1 I want to become a doctor, but the opportunities are few as my family does not have the money to send me to high school“, Says Armela Todaj.
These tears belong to last year. The life of the Todaj family in this New Year will change. They will start another life in the new house built by Different Weekend.
“I am very happy that we are in the new home, I wish the Albanians who enjoy health and I wish they have everything they want“, Says Arbër Hajdari.
