The President of the European Council, Charles Michel was received by Prime Minister Edi Rama in an official ceremony.
After talking about a series of developments since his first visit to Tirana, he stressed the need to give a new energy to accelerate European integration. He sees this new energy not in the first intergovernmental meeting of our country with the EU, but through a new status for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
“We are already accelerating integration and we should not wait until the accession negotiations are fully completed in June. We will have a meeting of the 27 leaders of the European Union, with you and the leaders of the Western Balkans. We can not wait for the final decision on membership. We need a political platform and that is lacking. We should have regular participation at the level of leaders or ministers from the Western Balkans. We discussed today with the Prime Minister an idea that of the associate members in the EU. This is a rough approach, an objective that we want to have the right formats in order to cooperate with each other. “
The discussed idea of associate member of Albania and northern Macedonia in the EU was further advanced by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“Integration in the political aspect of participation. To coexist as one community. The idea of Associate Member is getting more support. I do not know when it will materialize. This is a fantastic thing. “
Charles Michel expressed support for the Open Balkans, wishing other countries to join. While Prime Minister Rama showed what messages he received for this initiative during his visit the day before in Berlin.
“That Germany is against the Balkans open food for the local level. “Germany wants inclusion.”
