Inflation was fixed at 3.7% in January, unchanged from December, but still higher than the Central Bank target. Unlike the previous month the rise in prices is stronger in food this month.
According to the figures, vegetables have a strong increase of 17%, fruits, but also oils and fats. All these products directly affect the cost of living of citizens.
Then, Transport is the second group with the strongest impact on inflation, as fuel costs increased by 9%.
Statistics show that in conditions when citizens are spending a lot on fuel and food, in contrast, the prices of household furniture have fallen or remained stable during January, the same with clothes and shoes. Also, the health sector has not been affected at all by the wave of price increases.
Inflation that Albania is experiencing is among the highest in 11 years. The Bank of Albania has predicted that prices will continue to remain high throughout the year, while very soon interest rates may rise and mortgage or consumer loans will become more expensive.
