Meat production decreased by about 4% and reached 150 thousand tons.
But the needs for this product in the Albanian market are much greater, which are currently met by imports. INSTAT reported that during 2016 meat was imported from Brazil, Argentina or other countries in the amount of 39 million dollars, marking a large difference with exports that amounted to only 1mln usd.
While INSTA data show that the meat import market experienced a frightening growth during 2021, reaching a record value of 6.3 billion lek or 51 million euros, much that would eventually pull this sector out of the crisis.
This amount of 51 million euros, spent to buy imported meat, is greater than the entire support scheme that the Ministry of Agriculture has made available to farmers this difficult year of crisis. If this money were injected into the Agriculture sector, the situation would be quite different.
“2022 is a fatal year in terms of livestock. It is impossible for livestock to continue with these conditions, in terms of inputs “said the expert, Ervin Resuli.
