Since June 2021, the Women and Girls counseling line in collaboration with other partners is leading the Rehabilitation and Reintegration program for returnees from conflict zones.
A program that includes activities for returned women and children in order to be rehabilitated and reintegrated into Albania. Also the commitment of citizens to prevent violent extremism and radicalism.
“This center was established in 1996, a few years after the fall of communism, and slowly became a leader in service delivery, a support organization that raises its voice for others in Albania. Since its establishment, the mission has been to ensure gender equality in Albania, to promote human rights, good orientation by providing a range of direct services and by undertaking education and awareness raising initiatives.“, Says Sinkron Iris Luarasi, head of the Counseling Line for Women and Girls.
The Municipality of Tirana, one of the supporters of the organization of this forum, is engaged in providing direct assistance to women and children who have returned from conflict areas.
“What nation are we, if we think only about the next elections and not about the next generation ?! Therefore, I have very diligently fought for toy corners, nurseries and gardens, because today we have an infrastructure that serves even these marginalized groups. I am pleased that the Municipality of Tirana is committed to providing direct assistance to women and children who have returned to these conflict areas. “When it comes to housing, it is very easy to say that we saved them, but then what they eat, where they sleep, where they go to school, where they are educated.”
Tirana has become a city of opportunities for anyone who will start a new life, but the mayor also asked for the support of the community.
“Tirana is not only the city of first chances, but Tirana is also the city of second chances. For these families looking for second chances, I believe that Tirana is the right place, but there is a need for the community, classmates, palace friends, to be sensitized as well. These families will live on alms or maybe our program of economic empowerment, to start a small business, to open a shop, to have some basic skills, to earn a living with dignity and not with alms, is also part of our commitment and I am extremely pleased that we are doing this”.
Capacity building for the staff of public institutions and the operation of the hotline against violent extremism, which provides information, counseling and support to anyone in need, were some of the implementation points of the program.
