Secretary of State Antony Blinken has published another list of 11 people who have been declared ‘non grata’.
He has chosen December 9, International Anti-Corruption Day, to publish the names of the officials.
A former Colombian prosecutor, a former director in Guatemala, a national security adviser in Nicaragua, a current chief of government in El Salvador.
The U.S. punishment also included the Deputy Minister of Justice and the Director of the El Salvador Prisons Bureau, along with the former head of the communications directorate for the President of Angola.
Corruption in El Salvador, Martha Carolina Recinos de Bernal
Martha Carolina Recinos De Bernal ( Recinos ) was at the helm of a corruption scheme involving millions of dollars in hospital construction, suspicious pandemic-related purchases, including millions of dollars in surgical masks and millions more in hospital clothing from companies that have not obvious links to healthcare or manufacturing industries.
CORRUPTION IN GUATEMALA: MANUEL VICTOR MARTINEZ OLIVET
In March 2021, Manuel Victor Martinez Olivet ( Martinez ) was charged with involvement in various acts of misappropriation, fraud and abuse of authority during his tenure as Director of the Santa Rosa Health Zone within the Guatemalan Ministry of Public Health. Guatemalan authorities initially began their investigation into the activities of Martinez following press reports claiming that Martinez favored companies related to his family and awarded them contracts directly without going through the public tender process, bypassing the regular procurement process.
CORRUPTION IN LIBERIA: PRINCE YORMIE JOHNSON
Prince Yormie Johnson ( Johnson ) is a former commander war and current member of the Liberian Senate. He is the former chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security, Defense, Intelligence and Veterans Affairs. In 1990, he was responsible for the assassination of former Liberian President Samuel Doe, and Johnson Liberia’s Truth and Reconciliation Report mentions that it committed atrocities during the country’s first civil war.
The last person that Secretary Blinken publicly barred from entering the USA was former Albanian President and Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
