Recently released intelligence documents show Iran is seeking revenge after a US drone strike killed its top military commander in Iraq two years ago.
Recently leaked US intelligence documents say Iran wants to kill or capture former President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for the killing of General Qassim Soleimani.
The shocking plot was revealed by the National Counter-Terrorism Center, which wrote that Iran has launched a long-term program against senior US officials, including death threats, legal maneuvers and issuing arrest warrants and sanctions.
Commander Soleimani was one of the most powerful military leaders in the Middle East before his death, with extensive activity in the Russian military intervention in Syria or with the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon.
He was killed in an unprecedented drone strike near Baghdad airport during a visit to Iraq in January 2020.
“Since January 2021, Tehran has publicly expressed its willingness to conduct operations inside the US, identifying former President Donald Trump, former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, and former General Kenneth McKenzie as the main targets of its retaliation,” it said. in the report, according to the Yahoo News network.
It also explains that Iran considers killing or prosecuting an official like former President Trump as equivalent to killing Soleimani.
According to Yahoo News, the report is labeled “Not for publication” and “for official use only.”
The revelation comes as current US President Joe Biden is conducting a tour of visits to the Middle East, with the aim of strengthening ties with the region.
In one of the speeches, according to Israeli broadcaster N12, Biden said he would not hesitate to use military force to stop Iran from achieving nuclear weapons.
He had said: “The only thing worse than Iran would be a nuclear-armed Iran.”
The visits come at a time when international talks continue on reviving the Iran nuclear deal and lifting sanctions.
