The Minister of Health of Iraq, Hassan al-Tamimi, has announced the start of the vaccination campaign against the new coronavirus (COVID-19), reports Anadolu Agency (AA).
“Vaccinations will be distributed fairly and safely, and will reach all citizens free of charge,” al-Tamimi said.
He said the campaign will initially start with health workers.
Earlier in the day, al-Tamimi said the ministry he heads received the first 50,000 votes cast by Chinese company Sinopharm.
On January 26, the Iraqi parliament announced it would buy 1.6 million doses from Pfizer and eight million from AstraZeneca.
Most recently, Iraq recorded 30 new deaths and 3,690 new infections from COVID-19. Also 3,517 other patients won the battle against coronavirus.
The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has reached 703,778, including 13,458 deaths and 643,156 cured.
