The Western Balkans route is serving as one of the most important routes for irregular migrants to the European Union.

The FRONTEX report also speaks of an increase of crossings on both sides of the English Channel by 122% for the period January-May of this year, compared to the same period of 2021.
According to FRONTEX, based on historical data, the peak period on this itinerary lasts from June to November, and in 2022, over 46 different nationalities were recorded in illegal crossings on the English Channel where an increase is observed. of Albanian citizens.
For three years, the European Border Guard FRONTEX has been involved in the joint patrol of the Albanian-Greek border and has also deployed an aircraft to control the maritime space of the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea.
According to the agency, 132 FRONTEX troop officers from European countries offer their knowledge and expertise to assist the Albanian authorities in conducting patrols and border surveillance using 21 patrol vehicles.
FRONTEX works on the border with the Albanian police in collecting information from interviews with immigrants, preparing situation reports, controlling vehicles crossing the Albanian border, as well as reviewing documents and detecting cases of cross-border crime./VOA
