A panel of experts on Tuesday advised the Government of Israel to start offering the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to all persons over the age of 18 years.
This panel has made this recommendation based on data showing that the fourth dose prevents severe disease from this virus.
The advisory committee said the data show that the fourth dose offers three to five times more protection against serious illness and twice as much protection against infection, compared to three doses.
The Minister of Health must approve this recommendation in order to be implemented.
Israel is already offering the second boost dose for every person over the age of 60 and for those who are most vulnerable to coronavirus.
The state has been offering the third dose of the vaccine to the general population since last summer.
Data from the Israeli Ministry of Health have shown that there are currently 580,000 active cases of coronavirus in this state, but only 845 are considered seriously ill.
Nearly half the population has received the third dose and more than 600,000 have received the fourth.
Israel has reported 8,487 deaths from the pandemic outbreak.
