Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has signed a decree which will enable about 70 thousand employees from non-European countries to work legally in Italy.
This government decision comes as a solution to the pronounced labor shortage in the neighboring state.
Called the “Flux Decree”, it is expected that twice as many workers will come than last year, but also from previous years. Prime Minister Draghi himself at the press conference has announced the need for an additional decree if there is a need for more manpower.
“We are responding to a request from the Italian industry, especially in the construction industry, which is in fact even higher than this figure,” the prime minister underlined at the traditional year-end press conference. Labor Minister Andrea Orlando also confirmed that the number of employees in the decree is quite large, more than double the expected figure in the last 10 years. “However below the needs that arise”
This high number of requests for employees also comes because Italy is the country which has benefited the most money from all other European countries from the Recovery fund and has a number of major projects under development.
The decree states that employees can be seasonal, non-seasonal, but also self-employed.
The decree also stipulates that about 20,000 foreign workers are destined for the “third-party freight, construction and hotel tourism sectors”.
