A residential neighborhood in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, has been hit by a rocket attack on Monday, according to Ukrainian officials and numerous social media videos verified by CNN.
The videos show multiple rockets exploding together in a residential part of the Saltivka neighborhood in northeastern Kharkiv, near a supermarket.
According to the Kharkiv City Council, the recent bombing of the city has left one woman dead and 31 injured. The injured are 15 military and 16 civilians, according to the city council in a press release.
Dan Kaszeta, a London-based defense specialist and an associate at the Royal United Services Institute, said the images are consistent with multiple missile launch system attacks.
Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, said: “Kharkov has just been subjected to the mass bombing of Grad! Dozens of victims. “
He described the situation as “a nightmare”.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova also wrote on Facebook to describe the situation in the city. “It is more hell in Kharkiv today than it was yesterday.”
Venediktova posted a video showing a rocket hitting a kitchen window and tearing the leg of a woman who later died in hospital, she said.
