Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Japan would provide food aid and medicine to the country.
Japan will also step up its diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine along with other G7 countries, Kishida said, adding that Zelensky thanked Japan for its support.
The two discussed the situation in Ukraine, further sanctions against Russia and assistance to Ukraine.
This is the fourth time the two leaders have spoken by telephone this year, Kishida said.
