A British holidaymaker pushed her boyfriend to his death from a hotel balcony after a conflict and fight in their bloody room, a trial in the case in Turkey was told.
21-year-old father-of-one Reece Pegram died on the spot after falling more than 30 meters from the balcony of the five-star hotel in Side, Antalya, where he was staying with girlfriend Mary Meyers Kayley, on the night of March 12.
In the court of the city of Manavgat, it was said that after the incident, the police found traces of blood on the walls of the room, while the hotel staff reported that the couple had consumed a lot of alcoholic beverages in the hours before the incident.
The 3-year-old Scottish girl, Kayley, was reported to have drunk so much that she was escorted to the room by hotel staff, while her companion Pegram had earlier gone down to the hotel reception to drink but was refused service by the staff as he was in an intoxicated state. .
Traces of cocaine were also found on Pegram’s body during post-mortem examinations.
Kayley already faces up to 24 years in prison if found guilty of her boyfriend’s murder, but claimed the blood in the room was from ‘after their sex session’, or from a cut on her finger.
She admitted that she had argued with Pegram after discovering that he had cheated on her with his ex-girlfriend.
But she later changed her version of events, claiming she had cut her finger on broken glass and that their argument came down to drug use.
Kayley told the court that she went to the bathroom after the argument and when she came out her boyfriend was gone.
So she reports that she lay down in bed but later the police came and informed her of the death.
The accused claimed that the day before her death, her boyfriend had threatened to jump from the balcony.
“[Reece] has previously attempted suicide as he had psychological problems. When I came out of the bathroom one day, he looked at me and laughed devilishly on the balcony, saying that he wanted to commit suicide,” claimed the woman.
But the court rejected her claims and ordered her to undergo a mental health check.
Prosecutors say Kayley killed her boyfriend and have asked for life in prison, which under Turkish law is a minimum of 24 years behind bars.
Pegram’s body has been returned to Newcastle in northern Britain for the funeral ceremony.
It is not clear when the second hearing will be.
