The US Embassy in Pristina has announced that earlier this week, on December 28, Jeffrey Hovenier was sworn in as the new US Ambassador to Kosovo.
He was sworn in before US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland.
Hovenier is a career diplomat with the US Foreign Service, who has been part of the staff of the United Nations Special Envoy for Kosovo.
In October, at a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Hovenier said that, if confirmed in the post of ambassador, he would prioritize continued US support for a sovereign and democratic Kosovo.
He also said he would encourage Kosovo for constructiveness and flexibility in talks to normalize relations with Serbia.
Hovenier was nominated for ambassador to Kosovo in July by US President Joe Biden.
Confirmation of the Senate was required to take office.
Hovenier will replace the current US ambassador, Philip Kosnett, whose term ends at the end of the year.
Kosnett left Kosovo a few months ago, while his deputy, Nick Giacobbe, remained in office.
