The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that despite the record increase in coronavirus cases, the restrictions currently in force in England were the right approach and would be maintained, according to The New York Times.
“We have a chance to overcome this Omicron wave without closing our country once again,” Johnson told a news conference. “We can keep our schools and businesses open and we can find a way to live with this virus,” he said.
The prime minister said he would urge the cabinet to proceed with the current coronavirus emergency measures, called “Plan B”, which were introduced in early December as the Omicron wave spread. They include masks, instructions for working from home and the use of vaccine passports, but they do not comply with the stricter blocking measures demanded by some opposition lawmakers and scientists.
“I think the balance of measures we have is right,” Johnson said. “There is a good chance to cross the tide without further restrictions,” he added
