Boris Johnson today becomes the first foreign leader to address parliament in Kiev since the start of the war on February 24, where he is expected to announce new military aid to Ukraine.
Through a video link, the head of the British executive is expected to praise the Ukrainian forces for their resistance, and to claim that another 376 million dollars have been allocated for Kiev. London has sent military equipment to Ukraine, including rocket launchers.
The new aid will feature new combat equipment, radar systems and thousands of devices that enable night vision. In his speech, Johnson will also mention the 1940 address of leader Winston Churchill, as Britain faced the aggression of Nazi Germany.
Johnson will declare that “the British people have shown then such unity and determination, that we remember it as our best time. “This is the best time for Ukraine, an epic chapter in national history that will be remembered by future generations.”
Meanwhile, a US diplomat said earlier that the United States may soon reopen its embassy in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Charge d’Affaires Christina Kvien clarified that Washington is still awaiting a final analysis by security officials, before resuming their activities there.
“When they tell us we can come back, we will come back,” she said. Kvien added that US diplomats will start making day trips to the Ukrainian capital over the next two weeks, while the message to Russia is: “You failed, Ukraine is still standing”!
