An investigation into sexual abuse committed within the Catholic Church in Germany has concluded that Pope Benedict XVI did not take appropriate action on four child abuse cases thought to have taken place between 1977 and 1982, when he was archbishop of Munich.
Two of these four cases involved priests who, despite being accused of sexual harassment, continued to hold office during the same period that Ratzinger was archbishop.
The results of such an investigation were expected from the Catholic Church in Germany. This report talks about a total of 497 cases, mostly young men, who have suffered sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising from 1954 to 2019.
Benedict XVI, who is now 94 years old, resigned as Pope in 2013, has denied all charges.
