Kosovo and Denmark signed today a cooperation agreement on investments in renewable energy and political cooperation. The agreement was signed by Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli and her Danish counterpart Flemming Moller Morteensen, Minister of Development Cooperation.
After the signing of the agreement, Minister Rizvanolli said that this agreement paves the way for a deeper economic cooperation in the field of energy for the two countries.
Rizvanolli said that the energy sector faces many challenges and the recent energy crisis has shown the fragility of the energy system in Kosovo. She said the energy crisis has shown how important it is to have security of supply and to diversify electricity production.
“In our energy strategy 2022-231, the diversification of energy sources with a special focus on increasing the share of renewable energy sources in electricity production are among the main goals of this strategy. We will be ambitious in this regard, aiming to de-carbonize the energy sector by 2050. For us as a country this energy transition will be challenging, on the other hand we have the Kingdom of Denmark, which is one of the leading countries in terms not only of setting ambitious targets for climate protection and renewable energy, but also for research and development in this area and in finding solutions and implementing solutions to increase the participation of renewable resources. “Therefore, I consider that to have the state of Denmark in support of this transition, to have a deeper cooperation with them in the field of energy will be extremely important for us as a country to make this energy transition easier,” he said. Rizvanolli.
The Minister for Development Cooperation in Denmark, Flemming Moller Morteensen, said that today a very important step has been taken to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
“We will work closely together on the green agenda, including energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. I am pleased that Denmark can support Kosovo together with international partners, most of our framework for the next five years will be on renewable energy and financing energy supply here and the green agenda is more important than ever. We are currently seeing the impact of high energy prices across Europe and we have demand that is exceeding supply with serious consequences for the political-economic aspects. This is my belief that the green transition is part of the long-term solutions we need to find, the green transition in Denmark will once again accelerate… I look forward to working closely with the government here in Kosovo, with your ministers “I really believe we can solve some of the crucial global issues when it comes to climate change and the need for renewable energy,” he said.
