With 57 votes in favor, none against and 17 abstentions, the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo have voted the decision of the Government to declare a state of emergency with electricity.
The Assembly of Kosovo declared a state of emergency in the country, thus supporting the government’s decision on urgent measures related to the restriction of electricity supply. This decision practically legitimizes in this way the reduction of energy. It was approved by 57 votes in favor, 17 abstentions and none against. Emergency measures will be valid for a maximum of 60 days.
They include imposing restrictions on energy supply to consumers and special obligations for energy enterprises. The decision provides for the establishment of an Emergency Technical Committee which will identify the problems and submit recommendations to the Ministry of Economy. Following the recommendations, the Ministry should publish mandatory restrictive measures. Although the measures are foreseen for 60 days, the Assembly can extend it for other periods of 30 days.
Electricity restrictions have been restored in Kosovo for days. The executive says the crisis is a consequence of problems inherited from the past, while the opposition blames it for management failure. Albanian Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Belinda Balluku stated that Albania will help Kosovo with energy for the holidays, explaining that this will be done in the form of a deposit without paying a single penny as Kosovo will return it to us again in the summer.
