The increase of the minimum wage in Kosovo has failed. This is after the Social Economic Council failed to approve the proposals drawn from discussions with unions.
The Government of Kosovo has proposed that the minimum wage be 264 euros / month, or 1.5 euros / hour, a proposal that in the meeting of the Economic and Social Council did not get enough votes.
The representative unions did not vote on the government’s proposal as they had another option.
Both of these proposals did not get enough votes, leaving no decision on raising the minimum wage.
Meanwhile, the private sector workers’ union sees this dispute as an incentive for workers to leave the country.
In the absence of a decision, private sector workers in Kosovo will continue to have a minimum wage of 170 euros.
