The Assembly of Kosovo yesterday adopted a resolution expressing opposition to holding elections in Kosovo for a referendum of the state of Serbia on constitutional changes.
With 76 votes in favor, no against and no abstentions, the Assembly adopted the resolution during an extraordinary session convened by the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
According to the resolution, the holding of the referendum of Serbia in the Republic of Kosovo, “violates the sovereignty and constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo, is contrary to the Constitution, laws of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as international norms and practices.”
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, welcomed the adoption of this resolution.
The Government of Kosovo has opposed the holding of a referendum by Serbia on the territory of Kosovo, calling it a violation of the constitutional order of Kosovo. There were objections regarding this position from the QUINT states, writes Telegrafi.
At the opening of the session of the Assembly of Kosovo, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that he is not against the right to vote of Kosovo Serb citizens with dual citizenship, saying that voting can take place at the Serbian Liaison Office in Kosovo.
He also opposed the idea of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) collecting votes in Kosovo for the referendum in Serbia.
“A wrong practice established over the years does not justify the continuation of the same mistake. “Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state and should be treated as such,” said Kurti.
Following the adoption of this resolution by the Assembly of Kosovo, in Serbia it was decided that Serb citizens living in Kosovo vote at polling stations in Kurshumli, Novi Pazar, Raska and Vranje. According to Serbian media, a total of 45 polling stations will be added. the names of voters from Kosovo who will be able to vote in the Serbian referendum on amending the Constitution in the field of justice.
