Citizens in Kosovo from Wednesday are facing electricity restrictions.
The Kosovo Energy Distribution Company, KEDS, announced that the reductions are expected to last about two hours a day, at different times, and will affect all customers except those in emergency.
The reductions were instructed by the System and Market Operator – KOSTT, and the cause was the overload in the power system.
“In order for the crisis to have as little impact as possible, KEDS calls for maximum electricity savings and the use of alternative forms of heating, where possible“, It is said in the statement issued by KEDS.
For the situation created, some blame the policy of the last 20 years, others talk about the lack of strategies and projects. Citizens themselves have a much more concrete concern.
The “Kosova A” and “Kosova B” power plants in Obiliq currently produce about 500 megawatts of electricity per hour, while the demands are for over 1,100 megawatts per hour.
One of the reasons for this lack of production is the obsolete power plants.
To meet the needs, Kosovo is importing energy, but at higher prices, due to the energy crisis in the world.
The reductions have also affected Mitrovica, but various illustrated and photo reports show that its Albanian-dominated south was dark, while the Serb-majority north lacked electricity.
