The Council of Europe (CoE) continues to keep Kosovo’s application for membership in the drawer. Delays in reviewing Kosovo’s application are being considered bureaucratic, however, it is estimated that it was the right momentum to apply, despite criticism that Kosovo had to wait until a majority of votes in the Council were secured.
Meanwhile, although key EU countries have supported Kosovo’s aspirations for membership in the CoE, the advancement is further linked to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Political analyst, Gazmir Raci, tells KosovaPress that Kosovo can not be held hostage by anyone in the European Union to wait for the right momentum. Therefore, according to him, Kosovo’s application for membership in the CoE was appropriate, despite possible delays for its consideration.

However, the director of the EPIK institute, Demush Shasha, says that Kosovo’s advancement in the international scheme is related to the dialogue with Serbia.

Days ago, in a Twitter post, the rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon, said that the Government of Kosovo had to wait to ensure that it has the necessary majority for membership in the Council of Europe.
“Although many people support Kosovo’s application to the Council of Europe, they all advised the Government to wait to submit the application to make sure that there is a majority (of votes) in the Council before the application. “More or less all international partners said this,” she wrote.
