Ten months later, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met in Berlin with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Although there will be an informal meeting between them, initially, Scholz met separately with the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia. From the head of the Kosovo government, Scholz urged to be constructive in the dialogue process.
“It is central that both countries resolve the conflict step by step. With this they would contribute to the security and peace of the Western Balkans, but also for the whole of Europe. “The objective of the Brussels dialogue is a comprehensive, lasting agreement between the two countries, which opened the two countries’ perspective on the European Union and peace in the region,” said Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany.
Meanwhile, Albin Kurti said that the aim is a mutual recognition between the countries, seeking support from Germany in visa liberalization for Kosovo.
“Kosovo is proactive and constructive in dialogue, bringing proposals in line with the values of the European Union. “Dialogue should be focused on mutual recognition, so not on a recognition that comes at the end of a long process, but as a dialogue with mutual recognition”, said Kurti.
Olaf Scholz also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Then there was another informal meeting between Kurti, Vucic and the mediator of the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, who is staying in Berlin at the invitation of Chancellor Scholz.
