The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti stated that during the winter months, Kosovo has imported 40 percent of electricity.
According to him, import prices have been up to seven times more expensive than usual. Kurti said that in “energy crisis, as in any other crisis, there is no ideal solution.”
“In dealing with the crisis, a situation like before it can not be required. “A way should be aimed at overcoming the stalemate as soon as possible for as many of you as possible”, was his comment. Kurti stressed that energy import prices are not expected to fall, so he called for rational use.
He made these comments after the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) in Kosovo approved the new electricity tariffs. Already, the increase in the price of bills will be noticed by consumers who spend over 800 kilowatts per hour within a month.
Initially this institution had proposed increases for consumers who spend over 600 kilowatts per hour per month. Kurti clarified that the Government has increased the amount of subsidies to 100 million euros to alleviate the situation.
According to him, full subsidy of energy imports is unaffordable for the state budget. Government subsidies will be used for a period of one year.
