Guaranteeing and advancing the rights of children is an essential issue in itself, but also a driver for a fairer and more successful society.
The change that our Government seeks to bring in this direction is also essential. Almost all the priorities of the governing program are directly related to the welfare and rights of children.
Respect for these rights is a path that we aim for and that we will follow anyway.
In 2017, Ms. Arbërie Nagavci, as a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, had proposed the Lëvizja VETËVENDOSJE! voted for an amendment to the employment of assistants for children with special needs.
Now, in 2021, the employment of 100 assistants for children with special needs is being realized, in addition to the preparation of the necessary staff. There are currently only 70 graduate and unemployed assistants.
In the governing program we have foreseen that every year of our government we will employ 100 assistants, so that by the end of our mandate we will have at least 500 assistants in schools.
We have declared 2022 the “Year of Persons with Disabilities in the Republic of Kosovo”, during which we will take concrete steps to improve the situation we have found. In the Calendar of Activities for 2022, with the joint work of representatives of organizations, including Down Syndrome Kosovo, among other things, there will be training of teachers and directors of upper secondary education, for access and education of students with special needs .
We will stand behind our plans to build the systems and services necessary to support the development of children, reaching all children.
I thank everyone for their work and commitment to children’s rights, for changing society and our country. To increase the efforts to build a just society, and together to create a future with greater opportunities for every child.
With new hopes, towards the new year.
