On the day of the second round of peace talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Belarus, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attacked the United States, comparing them to Hitler for subjugating Europe.
Once this was the goal of Napoleon and Adolf Hitler, today America has his comment. Reiterating his claim that the Ukrainian government is a neo-Nazi regime, Lavrov insisted that Ukrainians were trying to use civilians as human shields.
He later targeted a speech by US President Joe Biden, saying that the only alternative to sanctions was World War III. For the Russian chief diplomat, the third war could only be nuclear.
“Atomic war is only in the head of Western politicians, and not in the head of the Russian people. “If a real war starts against us, then those who make such plans should think carefully, and I have the impression that they are really making these plans,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov added that the suspension of Nord Stream 2 shows what country the EU has in this whole situation, implying that behind this decision lies the US. Discussions on the ceasefire between the parties are expected to continue today. The second round of negotiations is being held in the western region of Belarus, Brest, but there seems to be little in common between them.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Reuters and CNN that Russia must stop bombing Ukrainian cities before talks on a ceasefire can begin. Vladimir Medinsky, who is an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressed that in addition to the ceasefire, the issue of a humanitarian corridor in Ukraine will be discussed. The parties also met on Monday, but without any results.
