Lake Prespa e Vogël in the Albanian part is at the end of its disappearance stage and there is no hope for its return.
There are less than 2 hectares of water surface left while the rest is swamped and thus our country has lost an important natural resource. The diversion of the Devoll River in the 1970s, which today is seen as a human error, increased the volume of alluvium and blocked the underground springs that supplied the lake, which now looks like a reedbed.
For specialists its return is almost impossible and yet, despite the disappearance of the water surface it serves as an important habitat for birds
Little Prespa Lake is part of the Prespa National Park and the area has many tourist potentials but with the disappearance of the lake it has lost a lot while for the authorities it remains the duty to protect the rest of the park.
