Serbia is now leading Europe in terms of the vaccination process.
In fact, Serbia is now the only country in Europe where citizens can freely choose which vaccine they want to get. About one-fifth of the country’s population, 1.4 million people out of a total of 7 million, have received at least one dose of the vaccine. About 500 thousand, have received both doses.
For a mass vaccination process, the Serbian authorities have approved four vaccines, that of Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca, the Chinese Sinopharm and the Russian Sputnik V. These last two vaccines have not yet been approved for use in the European Union, where Serbia aspires to join, but the Serbian government argues that vaccines should not be a geopolitical issue, but a healthcare issue. As a result, people can choose from four types of vaccines. They may also state that they have no preferences in order to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
“At first I just wanted the Pfizer or Astra Zeneca vaccine, but I changed my mind. Today I made a vaccine and there is no problem at all what it is. They are all the same“, Says a citizen.
“We are administering the Sinopharm vaccine, vaccinating 1500-2000 people a day and we have not had any bad experiences“, Declared Daragana Milosevic.
If they want to choose that of Pfizer and Biontech, they have to stay a little longer on the waiting list, but given the positive public opinion in the country, towards Russia and China, the choice of the vaccine is not proving problematic.
