The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu has inspected the works that are being carried out for the reconstruction and expansion of the maternity hospital “Queen Geraldine” Manastirliu said that within June the first phase of the project will be completed, to continue with the reconstruction the entire hospital building
“An infrastructure project will not only meet the demands of doctors in terms of service quality, because it will expand capacity, but on the other hand will create conditions to develop even more in terms of human resources. The investment is progressing at a good pace and we aim to complete it before the deadline set in the contract, the first phase will be finalized within June, to then continue the investment in the current structure or the classic maternity building “Queen Geraldine” , said Manastirliu.
During the inspection of the works in the maternity hospital “Queen Geraldine”, Minister Manastirliu said that the program for mother and child is a program already extended throughout the country, with investments being made from north to south.
The program for mother and child is a program which is already spread all over Albania, in the heart of Albania in Tirana with the major investment in the maternity hospital “Queen Geraldine”; we are also investing in the maternity ward block “Koço Gliozheni” and in the women’s center there; we are also completing a series of significant investments in maternity hospitals and pediatric hospitals as well. The Berat maternity hospital opens its doors within February, while within the year we will also have a new completed maternity hospital inside the building of the Kukës hospital, for the entire northern area of the country “, said Manastirliu.
The project for the reconstruction and expansion of the maternity hospital “Queen Geraldine” will be intervened in three plans: New construction with 3 floors and a basement; Complete reconstruction of the historic building that will preserve the details of the unique architecture in its facade but also in the interior spaces of this building; Expansion of the existing Obsetrika facility. It will be a large construction site of over 6 thousand square meters, where the main part is occupied by the new building, which includes laboratory services, imaging, emergency, Women’s Center and two services of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
