The joint press conference reaffirmed the commitment of the two governments to strengthen cooperation in the field of health. During her speech, Minister Manastirliu said that within the month of June, two new agreements will be finalized, which aim to provide more guarantees for health care for Albanian citizens and citizens of Kosovo, with a special focus on border areas.
“Soon we will finalize the new agreement for the health service in the cross-border areas by the doctors of Albania and Kosovo in the hospitals of the border areas. There will be a mutual exchange of doctors between the two countries, while there will be a bonus for Kosovo doctors, who will provide services at the Kukes Hospital “- said Manastirliu, noting that the two agreements will be signed at the meeting of the future of the two governments Albania-Kosovo within the month of June.
The other agreement, which the two sides discussed and agreed on, concerns the exchange of drugs, vaccines, biomedical equipment as well as the establishment of joint centers for the treatment of rare diseases.
“An important element of this agreement will be the fast corridors that we will create, through cooperation protocols for the exchange of drugs, vaccines, biomedical equipment. In this context, the agreement between the Agencies of Drugs and Medical Devices of the two countries will enable the development of rapid protocols, in terms of drug circulation and increase control and quality of drugs in both countries, in order to have procedures. faster, without bureaucracy, but above all, to have a guarantee for the drugs that circulate in both countries “, said Manastirliu.
Given that the tourist season has just begun and many citizens from Kosovo come to the Albanian coast, Manastirliu assured the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Kosovo, Dafina Gexha Bunjaku, that health centers will be at the service of vacationers and citizens of Kosovo. .
“I want to mention summer and winter tourism as one of the many complements that bring us even closer. Since we are before the beach season, as Minister we are very interested that our citizens of the Republic of Kosovo during the summer have proper access to the health system of the Republic of Albania, if they need and whenever they need. The new agreements between the two countries provide for the establishment of a joint committee between the two ministries of health of the two countries, to draft the protocol for the provision of specialized health services by doctors of Albania and Kosovo in the border areas. Regarding medical emergencies and specialized services, there will be mutual treatment in the hospitals of Kukes, Gjakova and Prizren, for the citizens of Albania and Kosovo, based on the protocol of cooperation.
The exchange of doctors and professionals in order to better manage the clinical cases of specific cases on both sides of the border, will be another concrete step towards improving the health service in these areas. The parties will commit to establishing a corridor of support in case of need, in the mutual exchange of rare medicines, tests or medical products.
Strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical field will be formalized between the joint agreement between the two drug agencies regarding the safety and quality control of drugs and medical equipment, exchanging experiences between professionals, but also making available drug control laboratories for capacity building and strengthening pharmacovigilance in both countries.
