March 07, Tirana- On Teacher’s Day, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, from the Faculty of Medical Technical Sciences, announced the opening of the new master’s program ‘Family Nursing’.
Manastirliu said that the first nurses specialized in this branch will graduate this year, while emphasizing that this specialty will be in great demand in services, not only in primary and hospital, but also in social care centers, in response to the strategy of the Ministry of Health for the provision of socio-health services.
“We have a very ambitious strategy, which has at its core the creation of centers of excellence in family medicine. Centers which in the remodeling that we are doing for primary care, could not meet all those objectives, if we did not have the new role of professional, namely the nurse in the family. There is a special element of this new master that is opening “Family Nursing”, despite the fact that there will be a first nucleus that is apparently small in number, so there are 20 students who enter this first master, but paves the way for the expansion of quotas in terms of this study program and why not the opening of new study programs in this important faculty, also to adapt to the needs of the time “, declared Manastirliu.
Speaking about human resources in Health, the Minister of Health said that together with the Rector of the University of Medicine and the deans, a very important agreement will be concretized, which paves the way for the increase of 100 quotas for health professionals.
“The fact that starting from the new academic year, 2022-2023 we will increase by 100 new quotas, quotas in Medicine and we are also negotiating for 50 quotas at the University of Durres, means that we are taking a step forward towards further meeting the needs of the country with medical professionals. But also regarding the Faculty of Medical Technical Sciences, we also aim to increase the quotas for the new academic year with 100 additional quotas for the Nursing branch “, said Manastirliu.
After the launch ceremony of the new Master program, the Swiss Ambassador to Albania Adrien Maitre also participated, who said that the support from the Swiss government of this new master program for nurses is part of the contribution to build institutions strong and effective in Albania.
After the launch ceremony of the new master program at the Faculty of Medical Technical Sciences, the Minister of Health and Social Protection has seen closely the new clinical bio-simulation laboratory at QSUT, a center which will support not only scientific research, education, but will also further increase cooperation with sister centers in European countries.
“This was in fact a request to run a laboratory, this also in the framework of the pact for the university, we had a support for medicine, now also a support for nursing. It is a fantastic practice that can be done here, to learn while being in the classroom, these are sophisticated devices and this makes the difference “, said Manastirliu.
On Teacher’s Day, Manastirliu closely congratulated professors of the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, expressing deep gratitude for their valuable work.
