In Kosovo this May 1 protested against discrimination against women and members of minority communities at work. The organizers were the so-called anti-capitalist bloc of the Feminist Collective for Thought and Action.
“Being a woman, LGBTI + person, of any other race, with special needs, you are unsuitable to be considered as workers, because this system in which we are and which is the patriarchal-capitalist system, is a system of violence, disunity, discipline and oppression of the majority in favor of the minority”.
Turkey
Protests also took place in many parts of the world. In Turkey, police arrested dozens of protesters in an attempt to stop large-scale rallies on a day commemorating the deaths of 34 protesters in 1977 and 2013.
Italy and France
In Italy and France rallies were organized by unions which gathered in Assisi demanding better wages, and more job security.
May 1 originated in the US in 1886 when thousands of workers stood up to demand the 8-hour workday we have today. This day is not actually celebrated in the US where it is seen as a holiday of communist countries, where it was marked with parades while even today it is celebrated, protested and continues to take various forms from workers’ demands to Marxist rallies.
