One day after the decree of the date of the local by-elections, the names of the candidates for mayor in Durrës were not delayed.
Among them, the safest is that of Emiriana Sakos, who after leading and continues to lead Durrës during a difficult period after the earthquake, has found the support of SP structures to run in the March 6 elections.
Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether these elections will bring together the Basha-Berisha groups within the DP, to come up with a single candidacy in Durrës. It will be clarified in the coming days whether the Democrats will unite or fragment the vote of different candidates.
Yet the first names within the split opposition have begun to be rumored in the two local Democrat camps. The EP Establishment Commission has launched the process of selecting candidates where the most discussed name so far and with support among Democrats is that of urban engineer Ardian Muka, while in the PD branch is rumored as a candidate for the municipality of Durres Luan Hoti , currently chairman of the Durrës branch of the Democratic Party, appointed by Basha after the resignation of MP Ferdinand Xhaferraj.
In the 2019 local elections, the DP did not submit any candidacy. Opposite the Socialist candidate Valbona Sako, who was elected mayor and resigned a few months later, was Valbona Sakollari, the Democratic Conviction candidate.
