Citizens of the country’s six municipalities will elect mayors in the March 6th by-elections.
The elections that were decreed today by President Ilir Meta come at a time when the DP is more divided than ever. Sali Berisha will come out with his candidates, although it is not known how he will register in the elections, as long as there is no legitimate party. The decisions that other opposition parties will take, if they will be on the side of Berisha or Lulzim Basha and the official PD, will also be interesting.
The chairman of the Republican Party, invited to the “Open”, says that it is necessary for the parties to sit at a table and come up with joint candidates.
“The opposition must find a way to communicate and come up with joint candidates. A common table of all opposition factors. If we want winning candidates, the voice to nominate candidates must be the voice of the citizen. This is the only way for the opposition to turn this election into a positive chance for itself”.
According to analyst Ergys Mërtiri, if Basha cooperates with Berisha, the Democratic Party will lose more in the elections. Berisha, he says, has no interest in competing with Prime Minister Edi Rama and the ruling Socialist Party.
“There is no interest here to win Rama. Berisha is not coming in to defeat Rama. In the conditions where the DP is, they can hardly beat it. I even think it is more immoral to get together, they will lose even more. What they have not uttered about each other“.
The elections will be held in the municipalities that are currently without mayors: in Durrës, Shkodër, Dibër, Lushnjë, Rrogozhinë and Vora.
