In the first intergovernmental conference between Albania and the European Union, the main tasks assigned to our country on the long road to final membership were discussed.
At the table of this conference, the high representative of foreign policy, Josep Borrell said that at this moment Albania will be helped to speed up the reforms as close as possible to the European Union.
Josep Borrell: Your harmonization with EU policies, as well as your work and cooperation with the UN council, reflects the right direction. This also comes with a high price, and part of that price is that you are part of the list of some undesirable countries. As we have said, you have 100% harmonization with EU policies. It is a policy that is valued by us and our relationships are not transactions of interest, but the goals we have. Albania will be supported by the EU to raise its stability in the processes that are part of the Russian aggression. We know how difficult it has been for you Mr. Prime Minister. A few days ago the Albanian government was sanctified by a cyber attack. We saw an action to face this danger. Albania has been a moderating voice in a complex region, helping in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. It has given a sign of good neighborliness. I look forward to continuing to work on our European path, we need Albania to complete the EU framework. We are stronger together.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Varlehy declared that the European Union will support Albania to meet all conditions.
Varlahy: We will support Albania to fulfill the conditions of the European Union. Reform, justice, anti-corruption. Change will be required in many parts of Albania’s economy. It is essential to communicate about the benefits and chances that this membership process gains.
Prime Minister Rama, in his speech at the intergovernmental conference, spoke about the Albanian commitment to this process even though there were many challenges that delayed this day.
The talks will continue with the roundtable meetings of experts who will continue to discuss all the details that need to be filled in for the membership.
