A man from Utah in the US has been arrested after a missing student was found naked and covered in dirt at his home, authorities announced.
Madelyn Allen, a 19-year-old student at Snow College University, has already reunited with her family five days after disappearing from her dorm room, local police announced yesterday.
Brent Neil Brown, 39, who is believed to have held Allen hostage at his home in Loa after meeting him online, now faces charges of kidnapping, rape and changing course of justice, the local network reports. KSTU .
“We do not have much information about him yet. “We still do not know what the connection is between the two,” said a police spokesman.
Allen, had met Brown in a group and had agreed to meet with him on December 13, according to case documents.
The dormitory security cameras showed Allen coming out of the dormitory but when she did not return after 24 hours her friends reported her to the police.
Brown is believed to have become violent with her after the meeting, but had allowed Allen to write to the family on Dec. 14. He then took her cell phone and tied it up while she was at work, while threatening to hurt her family if she left or gave the alarm.
Investigators had tracked down cell phone signals and located the teenager in the town of about 500 residents, 120km from her dormitory.
When police knocked Brown responded by saying he was alone, but later officers escorted Allen to a basement room, stripped and blackened by coal, documents say.
Allen’s parents, Jonathan and Taunya Allen, said they were happy their daughter was alive. The girl was for hospital check-ups but no serious injuries were reported.
Allen had experienced a “dangerous and traumatic” experience, her uncle said in a statement.
“She survived, we are happy she is back with us so she can recover,” said her uncle Jacob Allen.
Suspect Brown was remanded in custody by the judge.
