Thousands of families in Ukraine fear that their loved ones are buried under the rubble of buildings, injured and unable to make contact, or have been forcibly relocated to Russia, Belarus or to occupied territory in eastern Ukraine.
The last time Tetiana Popovych spoke to her son was on March 1st.
Vlad Popovych, 29, was sheltered in the basement of a school in his village outside Kiev as Russian forces advanced into the area.
“He told me, ‘Mom, don’t come here. Something terrible is starting. This is not like in the movies. “This is a terrible war.”recalls Tetiana.
The next day he tried to escape but was shot and wounded and then disappeared, leaving his family in distress.
