Tobacco smuggling through the port of Bar is clinically dead, said Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, as an operation was carried out in the port on May 14th, seizing about 145,000 packs of cigarettes.
The value of the seized cigarettes is estimated at tens of millions of euros.
“This has never been a state job, but a big fraud that has been done. Today we are completing this process. The transportation process will start and will take a few days. “As we promised, we will fight all kinds of crimes and the mafia,” Abazovic said.
Abazovic, Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanovic, Interior Minister Filip Azic, Minister without Portfolio Zoran Milanic and Customs Director Rade Milosevic took part in the action.
Decisions to ban the storage of tobacco in the Port of Bar were taken in June and December last year by the previous Government of Zdravko Krivokapic, and cigarette owners were given a deadline to remove them from warehouses in the port.
After the deadline for the export of tobacco products expired a few months ago, the Montenegrin Customs ordered the authorities in the port of Bar to confiscate the tobacco products found in the warehouse.
Abazovic said the aim of the action was to create a legal infrastructure, sell cigarettes and fill the state coffers with taxes.
