As diplomatic efforts to avert the conflict in Ukraine intensify, the Russian military is demonstrating strength. The US allows the Baltic states to supply weapons to Kiev.

The exercise, scheduled for January and February, involved a total of more than 140 ships, more than 60 aircraft and 1,000 other military equipment, the Russian Defense Ministry in Moscow said, according to Russian news agencies. About 10,000 soldiers will take part in the maneuver.
The Russian Defense Ministry explained that the main purpose of the planned exercise is “to protect Russian national interests in the oceans and to counter threats to Russia from the oceans.”
Deviation through the Baltic
The US allows the Baltic states to supply US-made weapons to Ukraine. The US State Department announced that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as the United Kingdom, have received permission from their arsenals to send US-made military equipment to Ukraine, but did not provide details on the type of weapons. A spokesman for the process said Estonia was allowed to supply Javelin and Lithuania Stinger air defense missiles to Ukraine.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas confirmed to AFP the planned arms supplies to Ukraine. “We have decided to send weapons and other aid, but I can not mention details,” he said.
