The Mansoura court has today sentenced to death the murderer of the student Naiyera Ashraf, after the Mufti of the country approved the unanimous decision of the court for execution.
The convict was found guilty of premeditated murder of the Mansoura University student, in the macabre event executed in front of the institution’s gate.
The event has caused severe public anger, especially due to the fact that a video of horror was shared on social networks where it can be seen how the 21-year-old victim is cruelly shot with a knife by the perpetrator outside the university.
The serious crime happened days after another femicide where a student in Jordan, Iman Irshaid was shot dead inside the university campus by a man.
The deceased Naiera had previously reported the perpetrator to the authorities and her father had also been a witness.
Images of Naira’s bloodied body quickly spread on social media in Egypt, despite calls for a ban on the gruesome footage online.
Officials said that she had died on the spot as the mobs seized the killer and beat him as he tried to leave.
The police said that the killer has admitted the act and said he did it when the girl stopped talking to him on Facebook after refusing to marry him.
