“This is genocide,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday after civilians were killed in the streets of Bucha, northwest of the capital Kiev.
Asked by CBS News if Russia was committing genocide in Ukraine, Zelensky replied: “Actually, this is genocide.”
“The elimination of the whole nation and people. “It is about the destruction and extermination of all these nationalities,” he continued.
Ukraine does not want to be “subject to the policies of the Russian Federation,” Zelensky said, adding that “this is why we are being destroyed and exterminated.”
The bodies of at least 20 civilians were found scattered across a street in Bucha after Russian forces withdrew from the area.
