Investigations into the mysterious crash three days ago of a small plane in a mountainous area of Canada, revealed that two of its four passengers, were wanted on murder and conspiracy charges.
The sudden crash of the aircraft in calm weather, has launched a federal investigation into the possible causes of the accident.
But the revelation that two of his passengers were fleeing murder and conspiracy charges has deepened the mystery of the unfortunate flight and expanded the range of motives for the crash.
Over the weekend rescue teams set off after receiving the crash signal in the forested areas of northwestern Ontario.
The four-seater Piper PA-28 Cherokee aircraft was discovered crashed near the town of Sioux Lookout, by the vehicle’s emergency location signal.
Both pilot Abhinav Handa, and his three passengers, did not survive the accident, writes the British The Guardian.
Among the passengers was Gene Lahrkamp, one of Canada’s most wanted men with a reward of C $ 100,000 ($ 78,000) placed over his head.
Lahrkamp, a former military man, was the prime suspect in the killing of a gang leader, Jimi Sandhu, who was killed in February in Thailand.
Sandhu, born in India but raised in the Canadian region of British Columbia, was deported to India in 2016 for serious criminal activity, mainly in the production and distribution of hard drugs.
Thai police say Lahrkamp and his accomplice Matthew Dupre, also a former military man, traveled to Thailand to kill Sandhu, whose body was found bullet-proof.
Sandhu’s death marks the second event of its kind in the country, as in January two men from Toronto linked to the ‘Hells Angels’ motorcycle group were killed in the Playa del Carmen resort in Mexico.
Also on board was Duncan Bailey, another gang member who faces murder charges in 2020 in Vancouver.
The fourth person was identified as Hankun Hong, a British Columbia resident with no problems with the law, who is believed to have been an assistant pilot, based on his experience.
Officials said investigations into the plane’s itinerary and possible connections between passengers are ongoing.
