NATO and US officials believe Belarus could join Russia in its fight against Ukraine.
They told CNN that the Belarusian country is already preparing. “Belarus is increasingly likely to enter the conflict,” a NATO military official said Monday.
A Belarusian opposition source told CNN that Belarusian combat units were ready to go to Ukraine as soon as possible in the coming days.
A senior NATO intelligence official said the alliance estimated that the Belarusian government was “preparing the ground to justify a Belarusian offensive against Ukraine”.
Russia has used Belarus as a springboard for many of its air operations in Ukraine, according to intelligence gathered from NATO surveillance planes flying over the Polish-Ukrainian border.
